Saba managed to raise an astounding £3,000 through online fundraising alone. “I didn’t do anything special to fundraise – I just set up a Justgiving page and then emailed everybody I knew,” she said.
Personal
“I wrote in person to everyone, which prompted more of a response. It’s a great way of catching up with friends too. It took me ages, but it worked because they all wrote back and said they’d sponsor me.”
Brit Insurance has been a corporate partner of the Red Cross since 2007, and Saba and Laura did the skydive after the company sent an email promoting Red Cross fundraising opportunities to all its staff.
“We had a Red Cross fundraising week back in May and an email was sent round about all the different things you could do. One of them was skydiving and Laura suggested we give it a go,” Saba said. “It was brilliant. Once I got over my nerves I started to really enjoy it. It feels like you’re floating – it was a really lovely feeling.”
Volunteer
Matched giving isn’t the only way Brit Insurance encourages its staff to get involved with the Red Cross – the company also gives its permanent employees two days per year to volunteer with its charity partners.
